A March Against Police Brutality and in Solidarity with Oakland – 6 Feb 2012

Occupy New Orleans introduced itself to the world on 6 October 2011 by taking a clear stand in opposition to The Prison Industrial Complex with its first public event being a rally at Tulane and Broad, in front of the Orleans Parish Criminal Courthouse.  Also, from the beginning, Occupy New Orleans has presented itself as part of a broader struggle occurring simultaneously in other cities, such as New York and Oakland.

Even as organizational paradigms shift, four months later, we remain true to our roots.  The first test of a rapid response network using a “phone tree” was to organize a march protesting police brutality, focusing both on local police murders and recent police repression in cities such as Oakland.

As diffused organization networks grow, events such as this one can be expected to become larger and more frequent.
